A Google web search for "artificial intelligence" produces more than 68 million results; the same search for "machine learning" returns almost 65 million results.Sifting that knowledge base for useful information would be a huge task in itself. News stories related to the terms tend to focus on key words such as transformation and revolution. With the level of hyperbole now at its maximum level, executives in all organisations are struggling to work out how these powerful emerging technologies can support business use cases.Smaller firms should be just as interested in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) as their larger counterparts. Yet small business owners hoping to take advantage of emerging technology might be fearful the cost will be even greater than the hysteria. The good news is it doesn't have to be that way.

vSphere Tags were introduced in version 5.1 as a way to organize inventory objects such as VMs, Hosts, Datastores, etc., a much-needed feature for helping search for or group objects within vSphere. My personal homelab has a very simple network topology, everything is connected to a single flat network. This has served me well over the years, but sometimes it can prevent me from deploying more complex scenarios. Most recently while working with NSX-T and Project Pacific, I had a need for additional VLANs which my home router does not support. There are a number of software solutions that can be used including the popular pfSense, which I have used before. Over the Winter break, a colleague introduced me to VyOS, which is another popular software firewall and router solution. I had not heard of VyOS before but later realized it was derived from Vyatta, which I had heard of, but development of that solution had stopped and VyOS is now the open source version of that software. Having never played with VyoS before, I thought this might be a good learning opopournity and started to dabble with VyOS over the holiday.

Why America Must win the Race to 5G

The United States has entered another technology duel on par with the space race—the race for the 5G network. It will revolutionize digital interconnectivity through enhanced data processing and storage capacity. The Chinese technology giant Huawei is capturing the 5G telecommunications equipment industry worldwide. Huawei promotes contracts covering every aspect of the 5G network from financing to installation. The United States is concerned that the company’s growth amplifies China’s political sway and brings security vulnerabilities. Huawei is subservient to the communist government under Chinese law. Multiple governments have indicted Huawei for espionage, theft, bribery, and corruption. The United States has added to these charges obstruction of justice, fraud, and illicit sales to the rogue regimes of Iran and North Korea. As the West and China haggle over the 5G market, several nations face a telling choice. To meet the 5G challenge, the United States should negotiate trade agreements on end-to-end 5G services, create supply chains for upcoming virtualized 5G networks, support alternate suppliers, and invest in domestic research to dampen Huawei’s expansion.
