The VMware Cloud Infrastructure Suite (CIS) consists of five technologies that together expand the capabilities and value that customers can realize from a virtualized infrastructure. CIS is designed to help organizations build more intelligent virtual infrastructures. It does so by enabling highly virtualized environments with the automation, self-service and security capabilities that customers require to deploy business-critical applications, respond to business demands more quickly and move to a secure cloud model. The CIS is based on the VMware vSphere platform as its foundation in pursuing any type of cloud infrastructure. In addition to vSphere, the CIS also includes VMware vShield App, VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager™ Server (SRM Server), VMware vCloud® Director™, and VMware® vCenter™ Operations Manager.

Virtualization can transform your company’s IT infrastructure

Article | February 18, 2020

For many companies in today’s highly competitive, rapidly digitizing world, data center transformation is not merely a one-time project – it’s a constant challenge. No corporate IT leader should be content merely to revamp their data infrastructure once, then call it a day. Instead, they should always be looking for ways to make their approach to data more dynamic and easier to scale. Ideally, they’d do so in a way that maximizes resource utilization while minimizing costs. Luckily, that’s exactly the idea behind virtualization, which involves creating a new infrastructure that’s capable of rapidly scaling and facilitating workload development. IT leaders are quickly coming to realize that with virtualization in their toolbox, they’re able to make their operations more agile than ever, and without increasing costs. This is why over 80% of enterprise server workloads today are running on virtual machines, and the market for data center virtualization is expected to reach a total value of $10 billion by 2023.

Security that’s Designed for the Modern Data Center

Article | February 26, 2020

The last 12 months have been incredibly exciting for the security business at VMware. Last year at RSA Conference 2019, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger outlined our Intrinsic Security strategy in his keynote presentation, “3 Things the Security Industry Isn’t Talking About”. We also announced the VMware Service-defined Firewall, a stateful Layer 7 data center firewall. As pioneers of micro-segmentation, the Service-defined Firewall extended our leadership in protecting east-west traffic in the data center. Later in the year, we announced two major acquisitions –Avi Networks and Carbon Black. The acquisition of Carbon Black brought to VMware an industry-leading endpoint security platform, and made the entire industry take notice of VMware’s intentions to transform security. With Avi Networks, we acquired a software-defined, elastic, and high-performance load balancer that comes equipped with a full-featured web application firewall (WAF). Maintaining the momentum in building out our security portfolio for the digital enterprise, we announced the VMware NSX Distributed Intrusion Detection and Prevention System which will bring advanced threat controls to the Service-defined Firewall.

Successful Cloud Migrations Made Easy

Article | March 16, 2020

TransAlta, an energy producer with gas, hydro, solar, wind, and coal facilities across the U.S., Canada, and Australia, leveraged data virtualization with the company’s cloud strategy. A few years ago, TransAlta decided to move 100% of its data to the cloud. The company centralized its data to reduce infrastructure, simplify data access, and scale storage. The biggest hidden challenge many companies face when trying to be completely cloud based is connecting the applications they accumulate over time. Whether they were developed and configured for on-premises environments, have specific security requirements, or are too old and complex to connect to data in the cloud, this presents a challenge.

Scaling Your Business the Easy Way—with SD-WAN as a Service

Article | May 28, 2021

SD-WANs are a critical component of digital transformation. Using software-defined networking (SDN) and virtual network functions (VNF) concepts to build and manage a wide area network (WAN) helps businesses successfully transition their infrastructure to the cloud by securely connecting hybrid multicloud architectures. But SD-WANs can do more than just facilitate a transition to the cloud —they make it faster and less expensive to expand your business.
