For some time now, 5G has been associated with the promise of new digital applications and services that come with a hyper-connected life. We have seen that this new technology, which provides “perfect” connectivity, creates new value for both us as individuals and to industries and enterprises. Researchers have published the details of an investigation into CVE-2020-3952, a major vulnerability in VMware's vCenter that was disclosed and patched on April 9. The flaw was given a CVSS score of 10. CVE-2020-3952 exists in VMware's Directory Service (vmdir), which is a part of VMware vCenter Server, a centralized management platform for virtualized hosts and virtual machines. Through vCenter Server, the company says, an administrator can manage hundreds of workloads. The platform uses single sign-on (SSO), which includes vmdir, Security Token Service, an administration server, and the vCenter Lookup Service. Vmdir is also used for certificate management for the workloads vCenter handles.

With so much valuable data potentially available, it can be frustrating for organizations to discover that they can’t easily work with it because it’s stuck in disconnected silos. Limited data access is a problem when organizations need timely, complete views of all relevant data about customers, supply chains, business performance, public health, and more, to make informed decisions. We need only look at the current COVID-19 pandemic to understand the importance of being able to view and share data across silos. One of the hottest topics in data architecture right now is data fabric. The notion of a data fabric is becoming important as organizations put more data in multiple cloud-based storage platforms, which can add to existing on-premises data silo problems. TDWI research finds that disconnected data silos are one of the biggest obstacles organizations face as they try to enable faster data insights. In the industry, “data fabric” is variously called an architecture, a framework – and of course, a fabric. With data fabric, adherents aim to provide a more universal and holistic approach to integrating diverse components of physically distributed data environments. Ideally, a data fabric will use services to integrate the necessary components so that data flows more easily and users and applications do not have to use specialized code to access each data silo.

Docker changed the way services and applications are designed, implemented and deployed. Before Docker, applications and services had to work cooperatively on the same machine. Sometimes they did, sometimes they didn’t. If something went wrong an entire machine, virtual or real, needed to be re-provisioned. It was an expensive and time-consuming way to go about application deployment. Nowadays, a Docker container thinks it’s the only process that runs on a machine. The result is that companies can run thousands of isolated containers on a single machine. Containers can also be created and destroyed at a moment’s notice to meet load demands. Docker opened a whole new movement in enterprise computing that’s both efficient and cost-effective.
