VMware has added Kubernetes support to run containers and virtual machines simultaneously in the new vSphere release. The virtualization giant can now also offer a single management domain that covers containers and VMs in the hybrid cloud. vSphere 7, launched today, represents the first fruits of the company’s Project Pacific. Project Pacific is in turn a component of VMware parent Dell’s wider Tanzu initiative to enable its overall product set to build, run, manage, connect and protect containerised workloads alongside virtual machine workloads. Deepak Patil, SVP and GM for cloud platforms and solutions at Dell Technologies, provided a quote: “As organisations look to solve for managing their private clouds seamlessly with multiple public clouds, we’re now able to extend our capabilities to both VMs and containers with a single hybrid cloud platform.
The United States has entered another technology duel on par with the space race—the race for the 5G network. It will revolutionize digital interconnectivity through enhanced data processing and storage capacity. The Chinese technology giant Huawei is capturing the 5G telecommunications equipment industry worldwide. Huawei promotes contracts covering every aspect of the 5G network from financing to installation. The United States is concerned that the company’s growth amplifies China’s political sway and brings security vulnerabilities. Huawei is subservient to the communist government under Chinese law. Multiple governments have indicted Huawei for espionage, theft, bribery, and corruption. The United States has added to these charges obstruction of justice, fraud, and illicit sales to the rogue regimes of Iran and North Korea. As the West and China haggle over the 5G market, several nations face a telling choice. To meet the 5G challenge, the United States should negotiate trade agreements on end-to-end 5G services, create supply chains for upcoming virtualized 5G networks, support alternate suppliers, and invest in domestic research to dampen Huawei’s expansion.
To support companies needing quick setup and support for remote workers, NVIDIA is expanding their free, 90-day virtual GPU software evaluation from 128 to 500 licenses.
With vGPU software licenses, companies can use their on-premises NVIDIA GPUs to provide accelerated virtual infrastructure so people can work and collaborate from anywhere. Companies can also temporarily repurpose NVIDIA GPUs being used on other projects to support their remote workers. NVIDIA offers a variety of customized vGPU software to meet diverse workplace needs; all three tiers of the company’s specialized vGPU software are available through the expanded free licensing. In addition to providing high performance and reducing latency for remote workers, NVIDIA vGPU software ensures protection for sensitive data and digital assets, which remain in the data center and aren’t saved to local client devices. This is an important security requirement for remote work across many industries, including visual effects and design, as well as for research and development.
For some time now, 5G has been associated with the promise of new digital applications and services that come with a hyper-connected life.
