OpenSynergy | March 06, 2023
OpenSynergy has announced that the ‘COQOS Hypervisor Software Development Kit’ (SDK) has been successfully ported to the STMicroelectronics Stellar family of Integrated MCUs. The software firm, based in Berlin, has collaborated with STMicroelectronics to prove that the automotive virtual platform, 'COQOS Hypervisor SDK for real-time processors', uses hardware virtualization and extends it. Virtualization allows automakers to safely and successfully run numerous processes and applications on a shared piece of hardware without interfering with one another. Future generations of the domain and zonal designs will be built on the foundation created by this method technically.
To fully utilize the vast potential of the new class of automotive MCUs, function separation by hardware virtualization is not enough. To further facilitate the integration of several applications and operating systems working simultaneously, various functions are placed side-by-side on virtualization technology such as COQOS Hypervisor SDK. OpenSynergy's COQOS Hypervisor SDK includes a hypervisor and virtual devices, enabling the systems to connect without additional hardware. Thus, ‘VIRTIO-CAN’ is used instead of traditional CAN buses (a CAN implementation in shared memory, instead of wires). Since 2018, OpenSynergy has been an active member of the OASIS Open consortium, specifying the essential devices per the open VIRTIO standard for developing these virtual devices.
Using the COQOS hypervisor in conjunction with STMicroelectronics' Stellar virtualization technology, it is possible to entirely isolate the software from the hardware, allowing the operating systems and the applications executing on them to function in isolation from one another. They can be modularly updated also.
Philippe Prats, Vice President of Automotive Marketing and Applications, EMEA Region, STMicroelectronics said, "We developed Stellar Integration MCUs for Software Defined Vehicles specifically to deliver hardware virtualization able to integrate many real-time and multi-ASIL vECUs".

Hardware virtualization enables domain functions (such as power distribution, body control, and GW functions) to function concurrently on a single Stellar MCU. Stellar's high-performance, multi-core design expands integrated functions necessary for a zonal or domain-based strategy. Spatial aggregation of functions, such as zonal computers, will be favored by future architectures as it reduces the cabling required for the entire vehicle. In addition, reduced vehicle weight and simplified integration are possible due to the cost savings made possible by harnessing via zonalization and virtual ECUs.

Elliptic Labs | February 27, 2023
Today, Elliptic Labs, the industry leader in AI Virtual Smart Sensors, announced the launch of 100% software-only AI Virtual Human Presence Sensor on numerous Lenovo ThinkPad X and T Series laptops. This launch includes the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s, T14, T16 Gen 4, X13 Yoga Gen 4 and X13 Gen 4,. The X13 Yoga Gen 4 will run Intel exclusively, while the other laptops will use the latest Intel and AMD chipsets (both AMD and Intel are Elliptic Labs’ partners).
Laila Danielsen, CEO of Elliptic Labs, said, “We are excited that Lenovo is using our 100% software-based AI Virtual Human Presence Sensors broadly across so many of their laptop models. This significant launch is further proof of the scalability, power, and value of our AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform. She added, “Our extensive deployment of the AI software platform is advancing us towards our vision of making all devices to become smarter, more user-friendly, and environmentally sustainable.”

Elliptic Labs' AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform uses small footprint machine learning networks, ultrasound, and sensor fusion to create AI Virtual Smart Sensors providing high-performing, frictionless user experiences at scale. Its launch shows that the largest PC manufacturers are validating and choosing the AI Virtual Human Presence Sensors.
Elliptic Labs' AI Virtual Human Presence Sensor recognizes a PC/laptop user in front of it. This enables the gadget sleep, in absence of a user, saving power, and thus preventing unauthorized access. Human presence detection is becoming a core component in the PC/laptop market; however only high-end systems have dedicated hardware presence sensors due to risk, cost, and design limits. Elliptic Labs' software-only AI Virtual Human Presence Sensor provides robust human-presence detection that OEMs can simply and economically integrate into a wide range of devices.
About Elliptic Labs
Elliptic Labs, founded in 2006, creates AI Virtual Smart Sensors that identify people and their surroundings. It targets smartphones, computers, IoT, and automobiles worldwide. The company's unique ultrasonic, AI, and sensor fusion software provides intuitive 3D proximity, gesture, breathing, presence, and heartbeat detection. Their scalable AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform develops sustainable, human-friendly software-only sensors for hundreds of millions of products. Only Elliptic Labs has scaled detection capabilities employing ultrasound, AI software and sensor fusion. Norway-based Elliptic Laboratories operates in the US, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. AI Virtual Smart Sensor, AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform and AI Virtual Human Presence Sensor, are trademarks of Elliptic Labs.

Globenewswire | April 24, 2023
Casa Systems today announced that LG U+ selected its virtualized Home eNodeB Gateway solution to help the South Korean operator modernize its network infrastructure and unlock new services and revenue streams as part of its broader network and service strategy. Casa Systems worked with distribution partner, E-Tech System, a leading provider of IT infrastructure and Mobile solutions and services in South Korea.
With nearly 20 million subscribers on wired and wireless services, LG U+ is one of the largest mobile operators in South Korea with a clear focus on differentiating through modern network infrastructure and advanced services. Featuring operational simplicity and the ability to quickly add new node deployment, Casa Systems’ virtualized HeNB-GW and SeGW solution will enable LG U+ to simplify its network, improve the 4G service coverage and service quality, and more easily capitalize on the growing market opportunity.
“We believe that the next generation of network services will be transformational for small and medium businesses and enterprise customers through new reach, performance, and capabilities. LG U+ will keep investment into small cells teaming up with Casa Systems and E-Tech System. The virtualized solution of Casa’s HeNB-GW and SeGW has the advantage of providing operational agility by requiring less space and power,” said Jonghyuk Lee, Access Team Leader at LG U+.
Based in South Korea, E-Tech System provides optimized IT solutions and professional technical services designed to improve the competitiveness and value of customers’ businesses. The company has expertise with a wide range of network hardware and software vendors and recognized that Casa Systems’ innovative software design addressed both the service flexibility and network operational requirements of LG U+. Casa Systems and E-Tech System are working on new opportunities to serve operators in the region and expect the LG U+ deployment to be the first of many engagements.
“LG U+ is at the forefront of deploying 4G and 5G mobile services, so we are excited to support their strategy with our network expertise and professional services,” said Mr. Shin Ho-Sik, Head of Network Service Provider ARM at E-Tech System. “Since so many of the solutions on the market are still tied to legacy chassis-based architectures and network designs, this collaboration with LG U+ proves Casa Systems’ virtualized HeNB-GW solutions to the market - an important milestone for Casa Systems and E-Tech System.
