IPVanish VPN Now Provides Security for an Unlimited Number of Devices with One Subscription

IPVanish | July 09, 2020

The vast majority of people have a range of devices connected to the internet - from the ever-present (smartphone, tablet, laptop) to the newer breed (TV streaming devices, smart home devices). So it can be frustrating if you sign up to a VPN service to protect your data and find that you can only connect a handful of devices. In a move that will make gadget hoarders happy, VPN provider IPVanish has announced that it is ending device caps and releasing a new feature that enables subscribers to connect as many devices as they want. The provider's new unmetered connections means that it will now give IPVanish users an “available VPN connection” for all of the internet-connected devices they have within one household. That matches Surfshark, and betters the likes of ExpressVPN and NordVPN that allow five and six respectively.

Scality offers enterprise-grade support for ARTESCA on vSphere

Scality | June 30, 2022

Scality today announced that their ARTESCA lightweight, cloud-native object storage platform is now officially supported on VMware vSphere/ESXi virtualization systems. This gives vSphere customers production-level ARTESCA virtual machine (VM) capabilities, with functionality comparable to physical servers and increased deployment options. In this time of supply chain challenges producing long lead times for physical storage server hardware, which can postpone company objectives, virtual machine support is very crucial. Traditionally, enterprise-grade storage needed hardware with an integrated CPU, memory, and disk capacity. Scality was a pioneer in overcoming the requirement for bespoke hardware by focusing solely on software and leveraging conventional server platforms. ARTESCA now deviates from typical storage needs by supporting production-level workloads on flexible, widely used VMware vSphere virtual infrastructures, including VMware vSAN compatibility and live migration capabilities. In addition to giving clients more deployment options, this allows partners and resellers to provide solutions to customers more quickly by avoiding supply chain delays, resulting in a faster time to revenue. Scality ARTESCA, which will be available in 2021, is rethinking object storage for the new cloud-native era. It offers both a compact footprint at the edge and data center scalability. ARTESCA is a lightweight, cloud-native object storage solution that combines full enterprise-grade features with rapid access everywhere data dwells. "Ongoing supply chain disruptions hamper business goals and growth. We're supporting ARTESCA software-based object storage on VMWare's ubiquitous vSphere environment to offer a solution that bypasses current supply conditions by eliminating new hardware requirements. Companies can move forward with the data storage and management they need." Paul Speciale, chief marketing officer, Scality

BlackBerry Strengthens QNX Advanced Virtualization Framework

BlackBerry | June 16, 2022

BlackBerry Limited has released an upgraded version of the QNX Advanced Virtualization Frameworks (QAVF) as well as compatibility for Google's newest Android Automotive OS (AAOS) reference implementation (Trout 1.0). This latest version of QAVF, which is now in use by OEMs across several production projects, will allow embedded automotive software developers to simplify development, expedite time to market, and decrease costs when designing Android Automotive OS-based IVI systems. This new invention extends BlackBerry's leading position in the embedded vehicle software industry by providing a framework for the development of both safety and non-safety applications. QNX Advanced Virtualization Frameworks extends the functionality of the QNX Hypervisor and the QNX Hypervisor for Security to support the complex sharing and abstraction of the underlying hardware in a hypervised environment for systems such as digital cockpits, domain controllers, and other high-performance compute applications that require a combination of safety and non-safety functions. The QNX Hypervisor solutions, QAVF and Trout 1.0, work together to offer a quick application development environment while exploiting the capabilities and benefits of the Android operating system. Virtualization is an essential necessity in present and future cockpit technologies. Trout 1.0, QNX Hypervisor for Safety, and QNX safety-certified shared device drivers work together to simplify Android integration for clients while also offering a suitable platform for designing mixed-criticality systems. QNX is upgrading QAVF to correspond with the current VIRTIO standards and provide USB management, filesystem sharing, and specialized graphics sharing for mission sensitive situations, in addition to supporting Trout 1.0. The advancement is yet another important automotive milestone for the company, whose BlackBerry QNX technology is in production programs with 45 different OEMs and 7/7 of the top Tier 1s, securing over 195 million vehicles globally. BlackBerry QNX is the market leader in automotive safety-certified embedded software. BMW, Aptiv, Bosch, Ford, GM, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Volkswagen rely on BlackBerry QNX software for a wide variety of safety-related systems. These include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Digital Cockpits, and Secure Data Gateways, which are becoming more common in automobiles. Moreover, with design wins with 24 of the top 25 electric vehicle automakers and providing a safe, reliable, and secure software foundation for autonomous drive vehicle systems, BlackBerry QNX is critical to the future of the automotive industry.
