Nokia will Assist PLDT and Smart in Transforming Their Nationwide Network and Standardizing Virtualization Environment

PLDT, the Philippines' largest, fully integrated telecommunications group, and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications will use Nokia's Digital Operations software, cloud infrastructure software, and AirFrame servers to improve their nationwide network. PLDT and Smart will use the suite of solutions to standardize their virtualization environment for multi-vendor applications. The deployment, which is already underway, would enable PLDT and Smart's integrated network to increase agility, flexibility, and reduce operational costs and time to market while delivering new consumer and enterprise services, with the primary goal of significantly improving customer experience, delivery speed, and production cost. Nokia will use the Digital Operations software to simplify the management of network functions, as well as network- and customer-facing services, throughout their lifecycle. The solution will manage two interrelated flows as PLDT and Smart's interconnected network transitions from physical to virtual form. It will first be in charge of the network function lifecycle, from onboarding to runtime and finally decommissioning. Then it will make the lifecycle for orchestrating services and network slices across the network simpler, from design to deployment and assurance. This will enable PLDT and Smart to improve operational efficiency while still being more agile in their delivery of new market-facing services. Nokia will also standardize PLDT and Smart's Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) as the single NFVI for the implementation of various vendors' Virtualized Network Functions throughout the Philippines' South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao areas.
