Polte and VMware To Unlock 5G Precise Positioning for Open Radio Access Networks

Polte | October 08, 2021

Polte, the innovator of Cloud Location over Cellular (C-LoC) technology, announced a partnership with VMware to enable an Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) solution for global "5G Precise Positioning," leveraging Polte as an xApp on VMware's RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) platform. This partnership aims to address the challenges of security, accuracy, and seamless cellular continuity that previously created barriers to access for 5G Precise Positioning within use cases ranging from Industry 4.0 to 5G Critical IoT. Together, through the augmentation of Open RAN architecture, Polte and VMware endeavor to stimulate innovation while subsequently offering systems integrators more RAN vendor choice.

"Together, Polte's and VMware's 5G Precise Positioning solution aims to meet the increasing demands for enterprise security while providing accuracy down to the sub-meter level with private networks, We plan to unlock a plethora of new global asset tracking use cases, especially within 5G Industrial and Critical IoT."

said Stephen Spellicy, vice president of product marketing and business development, Service Provider and Edge, VMware.

The RIC, as introduced by the O-RAN Alliance, is a core element of Open RAN architecture that allows operators to launch and optimize new cloud-native services and xApps, uninterrupted. VMware's RIC offers a software development kit (SDK) for third parties to develop new innovative applications for Open RAN, and enables operators to seamlessly integrate such applications into their networks. It will enable Polte's location xApp to not only democratize 5G Precise Positioning, but offer a foundation for other xApps that benefit from location awareness.

"Solutions providers should think of location as a system, not a feature. Taking a holistic approach to location at the earliest stages of any 5G deployment is fundamental to the success of offering value in 5G to enterprises."

said Polte CEO Ed Chao.

As a leading provider of cellular location, Polte's domain expertise and 70 global patents and patents pending are key to unlocking the full potential of 5G positioning for enterprises. 5G allows Polte to transform the utility of cellular location, bringing the optimum level of accuracy for macro networks and 5G private networks. Polte's and VMware's Open RAN RIC-based 5G Precise Positioning solution will provide enterprises with more secure communication to all devices and to their own cloud architecture, required for the most advanced, mission-critical communications.

Polte and VMware are both contributing members of the O-RAN Alliance, as well as participants in the 5G Open Innovation Lab, a collaborative ecosystem bringing together leading enterprise partners with cutting-edge startups harnessing the power and potential of 5G and edge computing to build what's next.

SecureAuth Announces Arculix Universal Authentication Fabric™ to Strengthen Passwordless Continuous Authentication

Arculix | November 21, 2022

SecureAuth, a leader in access management and authentication, today announced its Arculix Universal Authentication Fabric to further strengthen the technology to enable organizations for passwordless continuous authentication. Arculix Universal Authentication Fabric is a technology framework that delivers authentication driven by AI/ML behavioral modeling, continuous risk scoring and eliminates logging in making passwords obsolete. For users, it’s a one-and-done event for accessing their relevant apps, VDI or SSO. For companies, it’s a robust authentication with continuous authentication in the background without any friction to the user. “Historically, a single source to define and administer policy and processes for all users has been absent, Fraud, credential stuffing and attacks will continue to evolve as bad actors thwart existing security approaches. SecureAuth’s Universal Authentication Fabric delivers the first risk-based analytics approach as a consolidated backbone for continuous, multi-factor, and passwordless authentication with the highest level of security as well as a frictionless experience for users.” Paul Trulove, CEO of SecureAuth Between authenticating to the workstation, an SSO portal or federated web apps, VDIs, VPN, and PAM solutions, the typical user authenticates 16 times a day using three different sets of username and password. This is simultaneously insecure and a poor user experience. With Arculix Universal Authentication Fabric, users can login once and securely access the applications needed to do their job. Arculix Universal Authentication Fabric allows users to attain a level of assurance needed to authenticate with its patented behavioral AI/ML risk analytics engine. To ensure there is no account takeover (ATO), it generates a score at the beginning of a user logging in that is used to grant access to web apps, servers and services without requiring another factor check. This removes the need for siloed systems to authenticate users. “SecureAuth’s Arculix Universal Authentication Fabric is the underlying element for the new 360-degree cybersecurity perimeter that every enterprise needs: Continuous, Holistic and Adaptive,” said Alfredo Estirado, CEO of Grupo TRC. “As a key partner of SecureAuth, we are excited to offer this to our customers across various geographies.” Key capabilities include expansion of passwordless features into endpoints, including access to persistent and non-persistent VDIs, in the same passwordless way a user authenticates to a standard machine. This enables a passwordless authentication journey whether in or out of the office. This Universal Authentication Fabric also supports our device trust support for seamless passwordless authentication for transient virtual desktops and physical desktops. About SecureAuth Corporation SecureAuth is a next-gen access management and authentication company that enables secure and passwordless continuous authentication experience for employees, partners and customers. With the only solution that can be deployed in cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments, SecureAuth manages and protects access to applications, systems and data at scale, anywhere in the world.

The End-User Experience Must Be the Top Consideration When Implementing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Says Info-Tech Research Group

Info-Tech Research Group | November 04, 2022

Global IT research and advisory firm Info-Tech Research Group has released a new blueprint titled Considerations for a Move to Virtual Desktops. The industry resource was created to assist IT professionals in considering virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) or desktop as a service (DaaS). These solutions can increase user satisfaction, reduce IT complexity, decrease management and storage costs, and maintain a secure and effective environment for both the end user and the business. Info-Tech's new research analyzes the user experience data that the IT industry tracks but often doesn't use or even consider. VDI or DaaS users expect the user experience to be at least equal to that provided by a physical desktop and typically do not concern themselves with the underlying infrastructure. If the experience is less, it means IT has failed in the considerations for VDI/DaaS. "If employees are the competitive edge and key differentiators for a business, Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) has a duty of care to ensure that the employees' digital experience enables and does not impede the value of that asset," John Annand, principal director at Info-Tech Research Group Hybrid work environments and the security concerns that come with them have accelerated the move to VDI and DaaS solutions, but implementation comes with its own unique set of challenges to consider when deciding which solution is best suited for the business. In addition to considering the user experience, IT must also ensure productivity standards throughout the process, both strategically and tactically. Common obstacles IT departments may encounter include complicated shared infrastructure, inadequate in-house training, or insufficient staff to execute migration or manage post-migration activities such as governance and retention policies and other security, compliance, legal, and data classification concerns. Info-Tech Research Group recommends that organizations define their end goals, frame solutions based on end-user workloads, and understand the pros and cons to decide which solutions will best meet business needs. The new data-backed blueprint offers self-evaluation tools and questions IT leaders can ask themselves in order to accomplish these steps: Define and build your value hypothesis/proposition\ What is the business case? Who is championing the investment? Identify the project management team and stakeholders. Set goals to be achieved based on value. Identify KPIs and metrics to measure success. Identify use cases and personas Identify possible user friction (e.g., emotional, cognitive, interaction). Understand current infrastructure shortcomings and capabilities (e.g., network, security posture and tolerance, staffing needs, qualified technicians, end-user devices, etc.). Articulate use cases into functional and non-functional requirements Separate must-haves and nice-to-haves. Categorize requirements into identifiable functionality capabilities. Review your outputs and identify "gotchas" using the MECE (mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive) principle. Conducting a self-evaluation of the business and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of in-house technical skills and business requirements will assist IT leaders in making the right decision when it comes to VDI or DaaS solutions.
