StackPath EdgeEngine Uses Serverless to Strip Edge Deployment Complexity

StackPath launched its EdgeEngine platform that allows developers to use serverless computing technology to run code at the cloud’s edge. That means the code does not require a server, virtual machine (VM), or container.Ben Gabler, senior vice president for product at StackPath, explained that the EdgeEngine platform is built using the Chrome V8 JavaScript engine. This allows users to compose and paste scripts into the StackPath customer portal and assign those tasks to routes on their delivery sites. Those scripts are then deployed in all of StackPath’s 45 edge points of presence (PoP) worldwide where they can execute at the PoP closest to an end user when the designated script URL is called.The platform is intended to be a faster, more secure, and cost-effective way for customers to deploy services to the edge. Developers only need to upload their own code, which is then automatically deployed to the edge in an isolated runtime environment. This allows developers to work in a familiar environment and provides for a more secure deployment model.
