VMware Cloud on AWS drives momentum for cloud migration, business modernization

Siliconangle | December 05, 2019

Two years ago, VMware Inc. and Amazon Web Services Inc. joined forces to offer the VMware Cloud on AWS. The idea was to link VMware customers to the AWS public cloud, offering businesses a simple, safe and speedy path to hybrid cloud and operations modernization. As the popularity of the hybrid-cloud operating model has increased, so has the demand for VMware Cloud on AWS. And the partnership now appears stronger than ever. As customers look to avoid the headaches and hassles of migrating workloads into the cloud, VMware and AWS are there to help, according to Mark Lohmeyer (pictured, right), senior vice president and general manager of the Cloud Platform Business Unit at VMware Inc. What’s been great to see over the last two years is really the customer momentum, and the use cases and the way they’re able to take advantage of that service to really solve some really big challenges for their business,” Lohmeyer said.

Industry Analyst DCIG Affirms Arcserve UDP 9.0 as the Obvious Solution to Simplify Backup Complexities and Defeat Ransomware Threats

Businesswire | May 30, 2023

Arcserve, the world's most experienced provider of backup, recovery, and immutable storage solutions for unified data protection against ransomware and disasters, today announced the results of a comprehensive review conducted by independent research firm DCIG, of its Arcserve UDP 9.0 backup solution. The study found that Arcserve UDP 9.0 offers organizations a clear edge in protecting against ransomware while tackling the persistent challenges of managing backup and recovery complexities. Arcserve UDP 9.0 delivers a cloud-based, multi-tenant Cloud Console that centrally manages UDP and Cloud Direct, enhancing its protection of enterprise applications such as Oracle and MS SQL Servers. The solution includes architectural and user interface enhancements to improve performance, simplify management, and improve data resilience, availability, and durability through its support for multiple cloud object storage providers. These features, combined with Arcserve's existing integration with Sophos, provide organizations with a reinforced beachhead against ransomware threats. Jerome Wendt, CEO & Lead Data Protection Analyst of DCIG, commented on Arcserve UDP's multiple backup and DR capabilities, stating that "Arcserve UDP has for some time delivered advanced data protection features at its core that organizations routinely use. Arcserve offers both agent-based and agentless backup options, which give organizations the flexibility to use the best backup approach to meet specific application data protection requirements." Arcserve UDP offers multiple disaster recovery (DR) options, including DRaaS, Instant Restores, and Virtual Standby (VSB). DRaaS is available via its fully managed cloud services extension, Cloud Hybrid. Its DRaaS service keeps critical data and workloads protected offsite and available and positions organizations to continue operations during or after unplanned on-premises outages. The Instant Restore feature allows IT personnel to spin up a VM directly from a backup quickly. At the same time, VSB offers a highly available configuration for data and applications for even faster recoveries than its Instant Restore feature. "As ransomware attacks become more sophisticated and frequent, a weak backup solution is no longer an option. With Arcserve UDP 9.0, organizations empower themselves to defend against the latest ransomware threats and overcome the complexity inherent in IT environments," said Patrick Tournoy, executive vice president of operations at Arcserve. Searchlight Cyber Announces Secure Virtual Browser for Cyber Investigators to Safely Access the Dark Web

businesswire | April 13, 2023

Searchlight Cyber, the dark web intelligence company, has launched Stealth Browser, a secure and user-friendly virtual machine for cyber professionals to access the dark web and conduct investigations anonymously, without risk to themselves or their organization. Stealth Browser is an enhancement to Searchlight’s Cerberus investigation platform, which is used by law enforcement agencies, enterprises and MSSPs to uncover criminal activity on the dark web, and has been used in some of the biggest criminal cases involving dark web activity. The dark web is a critical source of intelligence for cybersecurity professionals, but accessing it carries risks for the investigator and their organization’s infrastructure. On their own systems, they run the risk of accidentally installing malware, exposing their digital fingerprint/proprietary IP address, or inadvertently leaking sensitive information. Stealth Browser eliminates these risks by automatically masking the investigator’s digital fingerprint, allowing both novice and experienced investigators to quickly and securely access Tor and I2P onions on the dark web without risk to themselves or their organization’s infrastructure. With one-click, Stealth Browser allows the investigator to generate a virtual machine directly from any internet browser without the need to install any software. This is in stark contrast to the complex setup usually required to safely access the dark web, and allows analysts to get the relevant information they need more easily, without the need for lengthy administrative and approval processes. Ben Jones, CEO and co-founder of Searchlight Cyber commented: “As with all of our solutions, Stealth Browser was developed in collaboration with our customers to address the challenges they face when conducting critical dark web investigations. Many organizations struggle with providing scalable and secure access to investigate threats on the dark web. Stealth Browser was created to allow any threat analyst, regardless of expertise, to get the information they need while always staying safe and secure. “Threat hunters and investigators put themselves at risk when collecting intelligence on cybercriminals and malicious actors who are lurking in the shadows of the dark web. We created the Cerberus platform to allow organizations to securely investigate previously unobtainable dark web activity. The release of Stealth Browser is the continuation of this mission, further reducing risks in the fight to bring cyber criminals to justice.” About Searchlight Cyber Searchlight Cyber provides organizations with relevant and actionable dark web intelligence, to help them identify and prevent criminal activity. Founded in 2017 with a mission to stop criminals acting with impunity on the dark web, we have been involved in some of the world’s largest dark web investigations and have the most comprehensive dataset based on proprietary techniques and ground-breaking academic research. Today we help government and law enforcement, enterprises, and managed security services providers around the world to illuminate deep and dark web threats and prevent attacks.
