Explore pros and cons of virtual application streaming

searchvirtualdesktop | June 14, 2019

There are two main ways to deliver virtualized applications application virtualization and streaming. IT teams should weigh the pros and cons of each to decide which is the best delivery method for their organization. Application virtualization is par for the course for modern VDI deployments. It makes life easier when IT has the ability depending on group requirements to add applications to base virtualization images on demand, which keeps the base image pristine.Application virtualization tends to be simpler to manage because IT pros can often perform a certain amount of system isolation when they deploy it. Since virtualized applications are located within the base image, IT needs minimal resources to activate them.

Dell Technologies and VMware Facilitate Improved IT Agility for Munich Re

Dell Technologies | February 18, 2022

Dell Technologies and VMware are working with Munich Re, one of the world's leading reinsurers, to create a consistent approach to global IT operations that performs with improved performance and flexibility at the high level of security required for its data-intensive workloads. Dell and VMware are assisting Munich Re to more easily adhere to compliance requirements and reduce IT costs. Azure VMware Solution, part of Microsoft Azure, and a modern private cloud based on Dell Technologies and VMware will help create a consistent multi-cloud architecture where data and workloads can be processed and delivered exactly where they are required and shared across multiple environments. The multi-cloud architecture will support Munich Re to offer a coherent customer experience across environments through a consistent IT infrastructure that consolidates all of Munich Re's global data centers into three hubs. "With Dell Technologies and VMware, we are creating a consistent cloud operating model to standardize our infrastructure and increase our environment's performance, stability, and resilience in a smart way," said Robin Johnson, CIO at Munich Re. "This modern multi-cloud infrastructure will help us in our daily business operations by providing the agility to match the right cloud to any application or use case." The Azure VMware Solution can accelerate application and cloud modernization initiatives with less risk and better economics than traditional approaches. It also allows for the extension or migration of existing VMware workloads natively on Microsoft Azure. Munich Re's private cloud will be based on Dell VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure systems with VMware Cloud Foundation software. Munich Re will also use VMware vRealize Cloud Management and VMware NSX to enable consistent management across cloud environments and enable security policies that follow workloads wherever they move. The insurance industry is going through a technology revolution ranging from how they process claims to how they engage their customers. Munich Re turned to Dell and VMware with the ambition of creating a multi-cloud strategy that could provide a powerful and stable IT infrastructure and respond flexibly to the demands of a dynamic industry with a seamless, standardized and automated platform." Bradd Lewis, Dell Technologies vice president and global lead for financial services "Across the insurance industry, we are seeing our customers invest in hybrid-cloud strategies to deliver more efficient and tailored solutions for their clients," said Jennifer Manry, vice president, global industries, VMware. "But to remain resilient, it's no longer about a 'cloud first' approach—it's about being 'cloud smart'. Together with Dell, we are uniquely positioned to give Munich Re the power to accelerate innovation with a smarter path to a hybrid-cloud environment that enables the flexibility to scale quickly and move workloads between IT environments without restrictions or trade-offs." Virgin Media O2 Partners with VMware to Complete 5G Roll-out Across UK and EU

Virgin Media | March 28, 2022

Virgin Media O2 UK has selected VMware to help modernise its network and enable the continued success of its 5G rollout. The company will leverage VMware Telco Cloud Infrastructure to rapidly design, build, test and implement virtualised network functions, boosting innovation across its network and the delivery of new services. The collaboration has underpinned the deployment of Virgin Media O2’s 5G network over the past 16 months. VMware’s Telco Cloud Infrastructure delivers a single horizontal platform enabling Virgin Media O2 to simplify, scale, and better protect its core cloud networks. Operating a reliable, agile network that can be efficiently upgraded to maintain quality of coverage is fundamental to the success of Virgin Media O2’s 5G network – particularly in highly regulated and competitive markets. Virgin Media O2 will also leverage VMware Tanzu for Telco's Kubernetes cluster capabilities to build Containers as a Service (CaaS) proficiency. This will support the next generation of containerised network functions and enable Virgin Media O2 to maintain and expand the network’s ability to support multi-vendor solutions. Being able to onboard functions and interoperate between different vendors is essential in rapid deployment. VMware’s common platform enables Virgin Media O2 to add these incrementally. “As the rollout of 5G networks comes close to completion, service providers need to be able to modernise their network infrastructure quickly, simply, and economically. The best way to do this is through a single platform that can automate and streamline delivery of multi-vendor network functions,” said Sanjay Uppal, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider & Edge, VMware. “Through its work with VMware, Virgin Media O2 is able to deploy a network infrastructure that enables the successful roll out of its 5G services without limitations, by harnessing the agility, flexibility, and consistency of a common platform.” Virtualising and modernising our network is essential if we are to cement our position as the leading telco provider across UK and EU and we are delighted to partner with VMware to achieve this. By utilising a consistent, NFV- and cloud-native platform for onboarding and managing our workloads and network functions, we are able reinvest into the network and our customers with a service we can be proud of.” Chris Buggie, Director of Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering & Delivery, Virgin Media O2 About VMware VMware is a leading provider of multi-cloud services for all apps, enabling digital innovation with enterprise control.
