Keysight’s 5G Technology Accelerates the Development of Virtualized Open RAN Architectures and the Delivery of Wireless Broadband Services

Keysight Technologies, Inc., a leading technology company that provides advanced design and validation solutions to boost innovation to connect and secure the world, will showcase 5G technology that accelerates the development of virtualized (O-RAN) architectures and the delivery of wireless broadband services at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2021 (MWC 21), which will be held in Barcelona.

With the completion of 3GPP Release 16 (Rel-16), a rising acceptance of open RAN interfaces, and a spike in investments in private 5G networks and industrial internet of things (IIoT) deployments, 5G NR has entered its second phase.

Finalization of 3GPP Rel-16

Keysight's comprehensive suite of test solutions enables chipset, device, and base station vendors, as well as data centers and service providers, to verify and optimize networks based on the most recent Rel-16 standards. As a result, multiple stakeholders in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector need access to software-driven solutions that enable the large-scale deployment of 5G NR across various use cases for consumers, enterprises, and public safety organizations.

Growing adoption of open RAN architectures

With increasing investment being deployed in disaggregated RAN architectures with open interfaces, there is a greater need for integrated interoperability, performance, and compliance solutions. Keysight collaborated with mobile operators and opened RAN suppliers at MWC 21 to demonstrate end-to-end performance visibility from the RAN edge to the 5G core (5GC).

Flexible use of spectrum to deliver wireless broadband services

Leading mobile operators use dynamic spectrum sharing, 5G radio dual connectivity, and carrier aggregation to provide 5G NR services across frequency range 1 (FR1) and 2 (mmWave) spectrum flexibly. In addition, Keysight's 5G network emulation solutions allow 5G chipset and 5G device manufacturers to prototype and verify designs based on Rel-16, which provides several benefits to 5G NR deployments such as better spectrum use reduced network latencies, and higher connection reliability.

AI and edge computing address rise in data and connectivity

The increasing usage of AI, machine learning (ML), virtualization, automation, and edge computing has come from an exponential increase in data and the number of connected devices, and the demand for ultra-reliable low-latency and advanced broadband connectivity. With 400 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) and 800GE test solutions, Keysight allows network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) to satisfy the need for greater speeds and traffic density in hyperscale data centers.
