VMware announces purchase of Artificial Intelligence startup

VMware today announced the purchase of an Artificial Intelligence (IA) startup focused on graphics processors and field programmable gate array (FPGAs), Bitfusion.According to VMware, the purchase, which was not disclosed, aims to help companies use AI technologies more efficiently, both on-premises and in hybrid cloud environments. To do this, the company plans to implement Bitfusion technology on its vSphere virtualization platform.In a note on his blog, VMware also says that once it is completed, the acquisition will further bolster its strategy of "supporting IA and ML-based workloads by virtualizing hardware accelerators.
