How to virtualize your workspace during a time of disruption

whitePaper | November 30, 2022

Globally, the number of employees permanently working remotely is expected to double in 20211. Multiple company workspaces have already gone virtual with many of their employees working from home for the long term. Enterprises now have increasing demand for secure VDI environments at scale to support the needs of an expanded and elastic remote workforce. This demand has catapulted VDI to an enterprise-class, tier 1 workload, on a par with SAP or Oracle. It is valued for its operational flexibility and increased security profile when compared to conventional desktop approaches. It organizations are advancing their VDI environments to enterprise class with hybrid/multi-cloud support, especially in light of the “new normal” of the global remote workforce.

How to meet the IoT security requirements of today and tomorrow

whitePaper | March 28, 2023

Governments around the world are creating Internet of Things (IoT) security legislation and regulations designed to keep users safe in an increasingly connected world. Connectivity is good and, in fact, great but bad things can happen to people with unprotected or poorly protected IoT devices. Failing to meet government regulations or guidelines may lead to the inability to sell products in a region and thus to lost revenue. However, the regulations are constantly in a state of flux. This white paper provides updated background on what governments are suggesting or requiring as well as specific details on how to implement security defenses and obtain security certifications that can satisfy current and even future government requirements

Intel Page Modification Logging, a hardware virtualization feature: study and improvement for virtual machine working set estimation

whitePaper | January 7, 2020

Intel Page Modification Logging (PML) is a novel hardware feature for tracking virtual machine (VM) accessed memory pages. This task is essential in today’s data centers since it allows, among others, checkpointing, live migration and working set size (WSS) estimation. Relying on the Xen hypervisor, this paper studies PML from three angles: power consumption, efficiency, and performance impact on user applications. Our findings are as follows. First, PML does not incur any power consumption overhead. Second, PML reduces by up to 10.18% both VM live migration and checkpointing time. Third, PML slightly reduces by up to 0.95% the performance degradation on applications incurred by live migration and checkpointing.
