IT and Network Transformation Infrastructure

July 6, 2018

Communications Service Providers (CoSPs) are using virtualization to improve service agility in the network. Because Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) run on similar infrastructure to IT workloads, there is the potential for a hybrid platform to serve them both. The CoSP cloud, also known as telco cloud would enable resources to be flexibly reallocated between the network and IT applications, depending on the network traffic level.Although the infrastructure is similar in the IT and network domains, the operational approach is different. In the network, software changes are infrequent and meticulously planned. In IT, DevOps practices are increasingly enabling more frequent updates to live systems. To enable the CoSP cloud, the network infrastructure platform needs to evolve towards using microservices in a software- defined data center, so that network services can be updated in the same way that IT systems are.Ultimately, having greater agility in the network will enable new revenue opportunities, with the potential to more easily launch niche services, and applications for edge computing and 5G.

Niara, Inc.

Niara’s behavioral analytics platform automates the detection of attacks that have bypassed an organization’s perimeter defenses and dramatically reduces the time and skill needed to investigate and respond to security events. The solution applies machine learning algorithms to data from the network and security infrastructure to detect compromised users, entities, and malicious insiders, reduce the time for incident investigation and response, and speed threat hunting efforts by focusing security teams on the threats that matter. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., the company is backed by NEA, Index Ventures, and Venrock. For more information, visit www.niara.com.

Virtualized RAN Challenges Debunked

whitePaper | January 17, 2020

Mobile network operators (MNOs) are now considering ways to take advantage of the benefits that Virtualized RAN (vRAN) can deliver. vRAN gives MNOs greater network availability and better deployment flexibility using pooled, centralized resources that are operating on standardized commercially available hardware. The virtualized functions that provide the network’s baseband processing in vRANs also lower CAPEX and OPEX by reducing cell site real-estate space and the power needs of the equipment that no longer resides on-site.
