Trends in Server Virtualization

Server virtualization has come a long way in a very short time. From its early days in IT test and development pilot projects, with VMware’s vSphere being the only game in town, to mass adoption, virtualization-first IT policies, and a range of hypervisors available from companies like Citrix, Microsoft, and Red Hat Linux. Server virtualization has now found its way into IT infrastructures of just about every size. A recent survey of IT professionals by Spiceworks found 80% of small- and mid-sized businesses have already adopted some form of server virtualization.

Network as a programmable service

whitePaper | November 10, 2021

Over the past decade, the cloud has become integral to nearly every digital and business transformation strategy, allowing clients to access the latest technologies, such as IoT, high-performance computing, and blockchain from multiple vendors to reimagine business processes and ecosystems. However, the network and the inter-connectivity across physical infrastructure, virtual infrastructure, and “as-a-service” ingestion points hinder or block broad cloud adoption across the enterprise. Traditional networking approaches make it difficult to keep pace with change and take advantage of new and differentiating technology. Today’s leading network service providers are virtualizing the network, separating the proprietary network appliance functions into discrete hardware and software components. This enables networks to achieve the same benefits already realized with the virtualization and software-defined enablement of systems and storage. The virtualization of the network is recognized as Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Virtualized Network Functions (VNF).

Virtual software platform for the car

whitePaper | October 4, 2022

Virtualization technology is gaining acceptance in the automotive industry. It makes the development process of software systems more efficient, reduces development and BOM costs, and shortens time-to-market. Especially in the cockpit, manufacturers and their direct suppliers have now been using hypervisor-based systems for several years. This first step towards a new conception of solutions is now experiencing another paradigm shift: the use of open standards. It further enhances the advantages of virtualization. The fully virtualized guest operating systems can be flexibly deployed and reused across all hardware. Only then can the full potential of virtualization technology be fully exploited
