VMware Virtual SAN (VSAN) and Rubrik

July 22, 2019

It was at VMworld 2012 that VMware first shared its vision for the software defined datacenter. This essentially entailed the virtualization of not just the compute infrastructure, but also the network and storage infrastructure as well. From this vision was born the concept of software defined network (SDN) and software defined storage (SDS). While VMware executes its SDN vision through NSX, there are a number of different implementations to allow our customers to realize SDS.

Virtualized Networks and Real Risks: Best Practices for Securing Network Function Virtualization Environment

whitePaper | October 3, 2022

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) is unleashing fundamental innovation in the way organizations buy, deploy, and operate network infrastructures. By leveraging open standards and commodity hardware, NFV delivers cost savings, enhanced flexibility, improved performance, and more. However, without the right safeguards, organizations can also see their vulnerabilities increase when they move to a Virtualized Network Functions (VNF) architecture. This white paper offers a detailed look at the unique security implications of adopting NFV approaches, and it provides a number of best practices to employ to ensure sensitive data and transmissions remain secure in these environments.

Virtualization Defined - Eight Different Ways

whitePaper | October 4, 2021

Virtualization as a concept is not new; computational environment virtualization has been around since the first mainframe systems. But recently, the term “virtualization” has become ubiquitous, representing any type of process obfuscation where a process is somehow removed from its physical operating environment. Because of this ambiguity, virtualization can almost be applied to any and all parts of an IT infrastructure. For example, mobile device emulators are a form of virtualization because the hardware platform normally required to run the mobile operating system has been emulated, removing the OS binding from the hardware it was written for. But this is just one example of one type of virtualization; there are many defi nitions of the term “virtualization” fl oating around in the current lexicon, and all (or at least most) of them are correct, which can be quite confusing.

Advancing the 5G Era Benefits and Opportunity of 5G-Advanced

whitePaper | September 19, 2022

This document focuses primarily on 3GPP Rel-18 - the inaugural release of 5G-Advanced. Initial work on Rel-18 in 3GPP started in 2022 (just before the finalisation of Rel-17), targeting commercialisation from 2024 onwards. As it evolves, 5G-Advanced will play an important role bridging from 5G to 6G with new features previously not standardised in 3GPP

Life in 3D:Using Alternative Datato Power Credit Risk Decisioning

whitePaper | December 20, 2022

As humans we see the world in 3D. It helps us judge everything we do, from reading people’s reactions so we can respond accordingly to knowing how high we should step to make sure we don’t fall. Yet as a lender you’re often forced to determine credit risk in one dimension, using a traditional credit score. And if there is no credit score, you are inclined to walk away.
